7th Chords simplified

A 7th chord is a type of chord that includes the root note, third, fifth, and seventh of a scale. It is named after the interval between the root note and the seventh note of the scale, which is a seventh interval.

There are four types of 7th chords: major 7th, dominant 7th, minor 7th, and half-diminished 7th.

A major 7th chord is made up of the root note, major third, perfect fifth, and major seventh. For example, in the key of C, a C major 7th chord would be C E G B.

A dominant 7th chord is made up of the root note, major third, perfect fifth, and minor seventh. For example, in the key of C, a C dominant 7th chord would be C E G Bb.

A minor 7th chord is made up of the root note, minor third, perfect fifth, and minor seventh. For example, in the key of C, a C minor 7th chord would be C Eb G Bb.

A half-diminished 7th chord is made up of the root note, minor third, diminished fifth, and minor seventh. For example, in the key of C, a C half-diminished 7th chord would be C Eb Gb Bb.

7th chords are commonly used in many styles of music, including jazz, blues, and pop. They add color and depth to chord progressions and can create tension and resolution in a musical composition.
